Q. Do I need to purchase a supply pack with my Automatic Disk Cleaner?

 A. The PD525 Automatic Disk Cleaner comes with a starter cleaning kit of 10 cleaning pads and one bottle of cleaning fluid. Most users purchasing the Automatic cleaner have a number of disks to clean. We recommend using one pad per double-sided Disk, so most people who purchase the automatic Disk Cleaner DO need to order at least one supply kit, models KA-1D (50 ct.) and KA-1F (100 ct.).

Q. Do you have a cleaner for the drive itself?

 A. There are no cleaners for Magneto-Optical Drives. The sensitive internal head can be damaged by amateur attempts at cleaning. The best solution is to call your hardware service technician. There are cleaners for CD/DVD drives. They remove dust and dirt from the Optical Lens. ProDisk has these affordable cleaners in stock.

 Q. How often should disks be cleaned?

A. Magneto-Optical disks should be cleaned at least once a year if they are used in a standard office environment. If the surrounding environment are more exposed to dust and dirt, (warehouse, etc) they should be cleaned  every three to six months in order to ensure continued usage.

CD and DVD discs should be cleaned whenever there is dirt, dust, or fingerprints on the surface of the disc.

Q. If I clean my disks and they still do not work, have I lost my data?

A. It depends on the type of disk. Magneto-Optical disks that have been recorded with a write-verify feature “on” almost always have recoverable data on them. CD and DVD discs that are damaged should be looked at on a case by case basis.

 Q. Do “Disc Repair” kits really work?

 A. Unfortunately they often do not work. What they do is “fill in” very minor scratches in the discs with a plastic-like coating. This is much more successful on audio discs than it is on data discs. BE WARNED: repeating this practice more than two or three times often makes it impossible to use the disc at all. In the case of Magneto-Optical disks, filling in the surface may actually add to the damage.

Q. Is there a service that will come and clean disks at my site?

A. YES. ProDisk, Inc. will send certified technicians on a job-by-job basis to your site and clean your media. Call us for details and cost estimates.
